Ampeg bass pickup

So,  was reading the ampeg book.  saw the ampeg pickup for upright bass.  the Amplified Peg (the product ampeg got their name from)
anybody ever use one of these things?  I cant imagine by today's standards they would sound very good.  but I wonder if they have a certain charm to the sound.
I really dug the use of the peg to transfer the signal to the floor pad, and then amp.   seems only natural the same dudes that thought that up would later come up with fliptops.

anyway,  anyone who has heard one of these, I'd love to hear about it.

Re: Ampeg bass pickup

My Dan Armstrong is a 71. It has the Sustained Treble pickup (along with a Country Bass). The ST sounds great...its got a big fat humbucker tone. Those pickups came out late in the production run, I believe.
