Early 70's V4 question
I posted this question on another forum but didn't get a response that really answered my question:
i have an early 70's v4, but the faceplate is slightly different than any other faceplate i've seen.
under the rocker switches it has "sensitivity", "ultra hi", etc., but under those labels it doesn't have dB or Hz or + and - ratings screened onto it, and the "sensitivity" and "ultra hi", etc. are so close to the black box around the eq knobs that there wasn't even room for the number ratings under the rocker switches.
does this give any indication as to what year it might be?
i'll post pictures later if i can get around to putting them on a hosting site.
thanks for any info.

Re: Early 70's V4 question
You will have to post a picture. If you want to know what year the amp was made you could get fairly close approximation by reading the date code on the pots.

Re: Early 70's V4 question
that is a close up picture of the faceplate. it is worn but there is obviously no second line of lettering beneath the "sensitvity" and so on.
it was hard to find a close up shot of another v4's faceplate, but this picture i found is indicative of all the other faceplates i've seen:

when i have time i'll check the pots

Re: Early 70's V4 question
I think the knobs kinda place it in the 71-72 time frame.
What does the amp say on the back? Does it say the ampeg co. Linden N.J. Or does it say division of the magnavox corporation?
My vt-22 was like that too. It's not all that odd.

Re: Early 70's V4 question
it says Linden, NJ.
when i was looking for pictures of other examples i noticed that it looks like the V-2 faceplate. i just haven't seen another v4 with it.

Re: Early 70's V4 question
there are many versions of the faceplate. I have amps with both styles. Like the changes in knobs from plastic to aluminum, there were also changes in the toggle switches from nickel to black.
