V-4B 2x15 foled horn cab restoration
I picked up a V-4B 2x15 folded horn cab this week low cost from a pawn shop. It is in rough shape but definitely can come back, better shape than a V4 4x12 I restored a couple years ago. Two main questions...
I'm considering not replacing the tolex and having it coated in a "Line-X" type material instead. Any concerns? Value, resale, collectible, etc. It is a big cab so will require a lot of tolex material and time, and will surely get nicked again the first time it leaves the house.
Part of the reason i picked it up is it has the original Altec Lansing 421A speakers. One is good, one has a tattered cone. A reputable recone seems to be from around $100. I could do one, both, or neither. Put them in storage or sell them, buy something newer, or get them serviced. Thoughts?
I play mostly desert/stoner rock stuff in Eb and drop Db, but at modest volumes with a 90 watt Sunn Sorado tube head.
Thanks,
Jeremy
