HELP !!! need some dimensions of 70's V-series cabinets

hey guys.....

I'm building a custom cabinet with some vintage 70's Ampeg
design elements

BUT.. I need some dimensions

Appreciate any help from anyone on the forum

1.  the TRIANGULAR wood inserts in the corners that
have the plastic grille fasteners on them
What plywood thickness are they? 3/4" ??
And what are the dimensions of the triangle?

2.  The removable grille frame..
Is it made of 3/4" plywood?

3.  What is the offset dimension from the front to the
     speaker baffle/board ?

any help much appreciated

cheers,
Chris

Hi there.  You still need those dimensions?  I just happen to have my cab open for some work...and have been strolling down memory lane (that is to say, reading old forum posts).  Let me know!

Re: HELP !!! need some dimensions of 70's V-series cabinets

Ok, here is the information anyway...

'1.  the TRIANGULAR wood inserts in the corners that
have the plastic grille fasteners on them
What plywood thickness are they? 3/4" ??
And what are the dimensions of the triangle?'

The plywood thickness is 3/4".
The dimensions of the triangle is as follows: 5 1/4" x 3 5/8" x 3 5/8".  It seems as though some of them might have been an 1/8 one way or the other, what with the tolex in the way and what not.

'2.  The removable grille frame..
Is it made of 3/4" plywood?'

Yes.

'3.  What is the offset dimension from the front to the
     speaker baffle/board ?'

I am hoping to interpret this correctly, but I think you mean from the front  edge of the cabinet itself to where it meets the baffle.  All the way around the cabinet, I got 2 1/16", in every corner, and in the middles.  The baffle itself is 3/4".  There is a 2x4 brace in a + shape behind the baffle that runs to all sides of the cab.  Finally, there are two pieces of 3/4" x 3" braces from the + shaped brace to the rear of the cabinet, they measured 10 7/16", and actually come up to the 'rear' of the speaker baffle.  Over built as hell, but very sturdy.  Wish I could post a picture...

Hope this info helps.

A side note, after possessing an empty V4 cab for almost 8 years, I finally put speakers in it!  Well worn 16 ohm Vintage 30s from an Orange PPC412, and man, do they sound good with Rhodes.  Had to put on grill cloth, chose oxblood, because I like it.  Now to find some vintage logos that don't cost an arm and a leg.
