Re: Year produced - V4B

Not by serial number. What are the number codes on the transformer bells?

You can probably get the numbers off of the transformers just by removing the back panel and using a small mirror (and being able to read backwards)...

Re: Year produced - V4B

To help narrow in...
1) Does it say Magnavox on the back?
2) Does it have black switches or white?
3) Is the rear panel courtesy jack two prong or three prong?

mid to late 70's, It should also have to the more rounded outlines on the face plate. As opposed to the more blocky outlines on the faceplate of the early 70's models.

Re: Year produced - V4B

Is the faceplate metal plate or a plastic film? If it's plastic it would make it a '75 or '76.

Re: Year produced - V4B

Not really.

The number with the dash is likely the transformer model/part number. Look for a number that starts with 1005. All the date codes I've seen on 70s Ampegs have had that number (which stands for Northlake - a transformer manufacturer)

For example:
http://www.tonecentral.net/gearpics/Ampeg_V4B_10.JPG

In this case, the transformer was made the 7th week of 1977 by Northlake.

1005 - Northlake
7 - 1977
07 - 7th week

158 is DuMont, which was a NJ company that made transformers. Since Ampeg was also made in NJ at one time they could very well have used them. So that could be it. In that case your 2 would be definitely be wrong then. Is it actually a 7? That would mean the transformer was made the 1st week of 1970.

Re: Year produced - V4B

looks like you were reading those numbers with a mirror.

the one number is the same as the number on my transformer, if i was to read it backwards and upside down  smile

my V4 shows this 320822-1
                 1005601       (1976 week 1)

so i think yours may be  320822-1
                         1005821   (1978 week 21)
