V4 as a bass amp?
Hi there! I'm new to the forum and still new to playing bass as well, so please forgive my ignorance... In any case, I recently had a guy offer to trade me a mid 70's V4 for my '66 Fender Mustang. Since I'm a bass player and not a guitar player, I was instantly interested... Especially since I've been wanting a tube amp but have been unable to afford a good, vintage unit. BUT, it's not the bass version of the amp (V4-B).
Here's my question: Can a V4 handle bass duty? Would it depend on what cab, what bass, what tubes, fx, eq, etc? Or should I simply hold out until (and if) someone's willing to trade me for an actual bass amp? I'm playing a 4 string Schecter Diamond Series with active pick ups, though I do plan on getting a better bass eventually... I'm into progessive metal, so I'm looking to have a fairly versatile sound. I do not currently have a cab, so I can choose accordingly if it looks like this amp can work for me.
Any help and advice would be a great help. Thanks in advance!

Re: V4 as a bass amp?
I've seen a couple folks use V-4s as bass amps to good effect. I'm sure someone can correct me, but I believe the only major difference is a few caps and lack of reverb. Get a cab with good speakers, you'd be set.

I've also been using my V4 (w/6550s) as bass amp, sounds amazing!
