Tube Help please!!
Hi
I need new power tubes on my V 4B. I've done a lot of research and finally have come to the same conclusion. These 3
6L6GC-STR RCA-Style black-plate
6l6GC Winged C
new 70207
which would you recomend? I had the original 7027 on them and loved the sound. Maybe a bit more headroom wouldn't hurt.
I've heard good things about those 6l6 and not so good thing on those new 7027
Also, if I change to 6L6 does the amp need any modifications?
thx a lot!!

Re: Tube Help please!!
First, why do you need new tubes? Do they test bad?
A lot of bass guys recommend sticking with 7027's.. Also have seen a few recommendations for NOS 7581A's..
I went the route of 6550's. like the low end of them and a tone more similar to an SVT..
6l6gc's will not require mods..... But make sure you check the bias..
A good read if you have not seen it: http://www.triodeel.com/7027.htm

Re: Tube Help please!!
They JJ 7027 is good, but a regularly used v4 can go through them faster than one might expect. The sovteks are junk.
I lets recommend the winged c 6L6GC.
6550s don't last. 550V on the screens in well over the suggested max. (200V over) If the 6550s were NOS GEs They would probably take it but not the Russian ones made today.

Re: Tube Help please!!
Hey thanks
I came across a site where you can get NOS tubes at a decent price.
Could you tell me if getting the 7581A is worth it?

Re: Tube Help please!!
i had some 7581s in my vt22. I thought they were nice. Lasted as long as I owned t hat one. (About 6 Years).
But I don't know what a decent price is. If they are more than $250 for a quad, I'm not sure I would call that a decent price

Re: Tube Help please!!
I meant, I can get 7027A and 7581A, both NOS at around US200 so my question was regarding if its worth it comparing both tubes. So for what you've told. 7027A are still better on a v4b than those 7581A
